Jesus died for your wellness

Jesus died for your wellnessSurvive or thrive? Endure or flourish? No one wants to be just getting through. That’s what wellness is about. It is about going beyond enduring to enjoying. I’m drawn to it as much as anyone. I want my body to be healthy, my sleep to be deep, my mind to be clear, my heart to be at peace, my relationships to flourish, my skin to glow, my hair to shine. Yet the pursuit of wellness can become exhausting. And there is one big problem: it is a losing battle. There is no winning in the end. At least not in the physical wellness domain. No matter how healthy we are, we cannot stop aging. We cannot prevent our bodies from eventually breaking down. We may live well and even live long, but none of us can stay physically well forever. One day, we will die.

Jesus spoke directly into that reality:

“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.” John 11:25

Jesus said these words after raising His friend Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus had been dead for four days, yet Jesus brought him back to life. It was an astonishing miracle, but it pointed to something even greater. Lazarus received his life back, but only temporarily. He grew old and eventually died again. Jesus offers something far better. By dying on the cross in our place and rising again, Jesus provides forgiveness for our sins and eternal life with God. Through faith in Him, death is no longer the end. Those who trust in Jesus receive a life that cannot be lost, spoiled, weakened, or taken away.

The wellness we pursue in this life is good, but it is temporary. The wellness Jesus offers is perfect, everlasting, and beyond anything we can imagine. Are you preparing only for a healthier life, or for eternal life?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I know that my life is temporary and that I cannot save myself. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins and rising again to give eternal life. Please forgive me, make me your child, and help me follow you. I place my trust in you today. Amen.
